Habara, a middle-aged man, cannot leave his house for an undisclosed reason. A nameless married woman comes to his house every few days to bring him his necessities and entertainment. He dubs her “Scheherazade” because she always tells him a story after they have sex, like the queen in _1001 Nights. _Habara values this time immensely because it is his only human contact, and he even prefers her stories to their business-like, loveless sex because he feels they allow him to connect with her vulnerability.
The main story she tells him is about a boy she had a crush on when she was seventeen. She used to break into his house and steal his things to be close to him, and she would leave her own items such as a tampon and hair in exchange. In the silent house, she was also reminded of her past life as a lamprey, waiting for trout to swim overhead to latch on to. When she steals one of the boy’s shirts, the mother realizes someone was there and changes the locks so that she cannot return. The memory excites her so much that they have passionate sex for the first time. She begins another story, but has to leave before Habara can find out what happens. He realizes that their relationship can be broken at any moment because he cannot leave his home, and values her gift of intimacy to him.
