Every year on holidays, a child’s father would dress the pole in their front yard for the occasion: Halloween, Christmas, the Super Bowl. It was their father’s one indulgence in a childhood of strict regulation and conservativeness. As the children grew up, left the house, and started families of their own, their father dressed the pole with increasingly less discernible logic and strange occasions. He adds sticks to pose as the pole's offspring, runs strings between them, and hangs notes he's written on understanding, forgiveness, and love. When he dies, his children sells the house and the next owners leave the pole for the garbage.
