The President of the United States learns that aliens have landed on Earth. He calls the Defense Department for contingency plans that may have been drawn up. One of the aliens, or nuhp, is there, and suggests the President use President Eisenhower’s plan. The President finds out that nuhps had landed in the United States in 1954 and that President Eisenhower had asked the nuhps not to reveal themselves and to give the government time to prepare the public. They had never gotten around to it.
The President welcomes them to Earth. The human population originally panics and does not trust them. To fight human’s distrust, the nuhps make an entire desert bloom, but only with hollyhocks, as they are the prettiest flowers on Earth. Nuhps have opinions about everything, though they say they are facts. This starts to enrage humans. A nuhp reveals that they are not as technologically advanced as humans, but both races agree to combine their knowledge to explore the universe.
The President remembers his roommate in college as having definite opinions of what was worthy and what was not. The President disliked him, moving out of the dorm room before the end of the fall semester.
In the first year the nuhps arrived on Earth, people started to relocate to other planets, where they live in harmony with other races who have also fled their worlds after the nuhps arrival. The nuhps knew this would happen, as it had happened on many other planets. This emigration, however, means that the nuhps fulfill their promises to fix many societal problems on Earth, as the smaller population means less competition for resources.
The President is now mayor and postmaster of a town on a new planet, and recognizes, as well as many other races in the galaxy, that the nuhp brings positive traits to new worlds even though_ _they should be fled from.
