An unnamed man is a banker living in New York City with his wife and kids. All of his life, he's tried to find a purpose and, to this day, has not discovered one. One day, he meets a storyteller, and they talk about the art of stories. The man has a theory that if a man and woman are reading the same story simultaneously, their phantom selves share an adventure. One day, he meets a girl in his neighbor's garden. He begins to have a relationship with this girl. When he learns that the girl has died, he confesses his affair to his wife. However, instead, he tells it as a story of a man and woman falling in love. The wife doesn't realize that he is the man and the man never clarifies the wife's confusion.
