Plot Summary
Marian, a young divorcee, has a sudden windfall of money that allows her to take care of her two children and give them everything they could possibly want — including two horses. The kids' father is confused by this decision and thinks that the horses are too much. When he asks her what she's doing now, or if she's just sitting around, she snaps back that she volunteers with Holocaust survivors, even though she most certainly does not. Back at her home, he asks why she also bought super expensive bikes. Marian hops on one and says that they're for doing tricks, then immediately knocks herself unconscious when she tries to pop a wheelie. At the hospital, Marian finds out she's concussed and needs a few stitches. Dan, her husband, asks for joint custody of the kids with his new wife, a third-year law student. Dan wants to know more about her volunteer work, which surprises her children who say nothing but give their mom weird looks. Back at home, Dan propositions Marian. She considers, but wavers when she thinks over their marriage. Dan had actively sought out someone with whom to cheat on Marian, and he hadn't even fought for custody of their kids at the time, just remarried and moved on. Now here he is, doing it all over again. Yet she sleeps with him, partly out of pity. When they finish, he asks to go volunteer with her. He wants to bring the kids as well, to show them that their lives aren't perfect. He catches Marian out that she hasn't actually done any volunteering and judges her. Later, Dan comes back with his new wife to pick up the kids for the weekend. He tries to act snide about the volunteering again but Marian has actually found a place to volunteer for Holocaust survivors. She goes that weekend and dances a waltz with an old survivor.
