A woman living in New York City decides to finally visit her family in Kentucky after many years away. When she arrives, she is shocked by how normal they all seem, after years of demonizing them in her mind.
One night, walking back to her parent's house from the post box, she sees a man sitting on his porch. She instantly recognizes him as the boy who broke her heart so many years ago. She remembers how her now-dead brother hadn't approved of their romance.
After another week, the woman meets up with a few of her old friends who still remember her as the leader of the radical political group in high school, but enjoy her company nonetheless.
After spending the evening with a friend, the woman walks back to her parents' house, but is interrupted by the man who broke her heart. He sits on his porch smoking a cigarette and they begin to talk. The woman is distraught and quickly returns home.
Finally, the woman decides to go back to New York City. Before getting on the train, she visits her brother's gravestone with her mother.
