Carmena Boone is holding a prayer meeting with a group of other elderly women when Ida Garrett knocks on her door. Ida used to be friends with one of the attendees, Beatrice, but they felt out when Ida felt as though Beatrice constantly treated her as a child. While waiting for the Reverend to arrive, the women hear the storm tearing through their Southern landscape. They start telling stories. Beatrice speaks about the time that there was a storm and several of her family members were struck dead out of nowhere. The women huddle to pray and depart.
Later that night, Beatrice hears a noise in her house. The storm is still going on. It’s Ida, who has come to beg for them to be friends again. Beatrice agrees and they sit down to pray for the storm to end.
