Plot Summary
Two friends, Harry and Noah, frequently go to a cafeteria to discuss philosophical ideas such as the state of the economy and life. The two men go to the cafe as they aren't wealthy, as well as it is 1934 and the Great Depression is occurring. One day, Harry invites his friend Bradley Brown to the intellectual conversations they have in the cafeteria. However, Noah is immediately put off by Bradley. Harry explains that Bradley knows a lot about prints. When Noah asks what prints he likes, Bradley tells them that his favorite print was a child sleeping in a cemetery. Bradley then tells the men that he relates to the print because when he was young, his parents would drop him off at the graveyard and sometimes sleep there. Bradley then tells the men that he is used to death as both of his parents died from influenza in 1919. Noah then tells the group that he learned about death when he was young. A saleswoman convinced his mom to buy books. However, when Noah checked the books out, the books contained photos of death. Harry reveals he didn't know death existed when he was young. The men then leave the cafeteria and walk the streets of New York City. Harry and Noah then talk about topics in real life, where Bradley reveals that he doesn't believe the real world exists. Instead, Bradley believes that the world is just a dream. Noah is highly offended and wants to get away from Bradley. However, as Noah tries to convince Harry to leave with him, Bradley bumps into a girl. The girl is being accompanied by her drunk boyfriend, and the boyfriend accuses Bradley of attempting to steal his girl. The man punches Bradley, and Noah and Harry come to Bradley's defense. They pin the drunk man down and call the cops. As the cops arrest the drunken man, Noah asks Bradley if he still believes the world doesn't exist. Bradley starts to cry, and Harry tells Noah to leave Bradley alone.
