April is a freshman in college who is struggling to make friends. When she finds out the father of Davy, her deceased friend, is a professor at her university, she gives him a call and begins visiting his weekly office hours. At first, the two don't talk about Davy, who died of brain cancer; they only talk about April's struggles to adjust to college. However, they soon come to grieve together.
The professor encourages April to try to make friends. April befriends a girl named Caitlin, who is a lesbian. April expresses to the professor that she thinks there might be sexual tension between her and Caitlin, except April is heterosexual. April and Caitlin grow very close, sharing secrets and sex stories. One day, April tells Caitlin about the time she gave Davy a blow job in their high school bathroom—after he was diagnosed with brain cancer and paralyzed from the waist down, and she realized he might die without ever having sex. While telling the story, April begins to cry. To comfort her, Caitlin pulls her into an embrace. The two of them kiss.
