Nico is an adult man signing up to fight into the intergalactic war between Earth and a reptilian group of extraterrestrials. As he waits in line, he sees a captured reptile. The sight makes him uncomfortable, but he quickly looks away, reminding himself that he needs to do this to get his citizenship. He successfully signs up and completes the training. He’s introduced to the robot body that his mind will be connected to. He’ll never physically enter the war, but his mind will control the robot so that it kills the reptiles. As he continues to fight, his connection with his organic body wanes until he deletes the memory of the human he once was. He becomes completely defined by the machinery hooked up to his mind. One thought dominates all others in his brain: the enemy must die.
