Plot Summary
The demon slayer arrives to Tse-Abiem village. The villagers are disappointed, as they expected the demon slayer to be big and strong, though he turns out to be dwarfish. The demon slayer approaches a few villagers playing cards, asking them to see the Tyoor, and they pay him no mind. They say that the Tyoor is busy with a guest. The demon slayer says he is the guest, which surprises them.
The demon slayer then greets the Tyoor and the village elders. He says he’s all he needs to slay the demons. Hesitantly, the Tyoor asks him how he’ll do it as such a small person. The demon slayer requests three young men whom he’ll teach in demon slaying. The Tyoor says that the agreed-upon deal was for him to do it himself. The demon slayer rebuts, saying that he must teach the villagers how to slay demons in order to bring the infestation to a permanent end. Desperately, as they’ve tried all sorts of measures in the past to no avail, the villagers go along with the demon slayer’s demands.
The demon slayer is accompanied by three strong men with weapons. Although he wished for ordinary people, he accepts and leads them out into the night. The demon slayer asks them where the attacks have been happening, to which they point to the Abiem Hills, where the attacks have started ever since the village’s sorcerer was buried. Without fear, the demon slayer takes them to the base of the Abiem Hills, and they hesitantly follow. While they go, the strong men narrate accounts of recent attacks happening all around the village.Eventually, the demon slayer and the strong men get to the sorcerer’s burial chamber. A bat comes out, after which a creature springs up from the grave and materializes into a giant shadow, growing bigger and bigger. The demon slayer stands firmly before it, but the three strong men run from it. From afar, they see the demon slayer’s aura of light battling the creature’s aura of shadow. Eventually, the creature becomes smaller and smaller. He explains to the strong men that such demons are manifested through human fear, hence how they’ve infested the village, purely a result of the village’s fearful expectations of horrific things following the sorcerer’s death.
From then on, the demon slayer spends a few more nights, leading packs of villagers out into the night in order to fight the demons. After a few weeks, the village’s fear subsides, and they see the demon slayer off.
