Plot Summary
The cool and sexy Asian girl smokes outside of the convenience store and meets the white boy, who is also the detective, or the hacker, or, to her, the tourist. They have been spending lots of time together, but not really in a romantic way. They are supposed to be looking for a bartender in a bar called the Crimson. The tourist, of course, is new, whereas the cool and sexy Asian girl has been here her whole life, at least in her life as the cool and sexy Asian girl.
The cool and sexy Asian girl recalls how she even got into a shared predicament with the tourist. She works at a biotech company that was bought out by a corporation called Zether. The tourist has a dead wife who was involved in a data breach that Zether has some relation to. Together, they go through the bar to find answers.
At the bar, the cool and sexy Asian girl and tourist meet the bartender for information. She knows the bartender because they played underground poker together. The tourist asks if they’ve done this whole thing together before, but the cool and sexy Asian girl lies and says that she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Eventually, the bartender comes, and the cool and sexy Asian girl asks about Zether, as well as the tourist’s wife. In exchange for information, they play a game of poker.
The tourist wins the game of poker. The cool and sexy Asian girl thinks about how lucky he is, how the city is naturally inclined toward him. He gets all of the winnings, plus a data chip with information. The tourist then goes away to cash in, while the cool and sexy Asian girl and bartender briefly talk. She asks him if he can lie to the tourist about his wife. The bartender asks if she’s really helping him, after which he says that he has to uphold his end of the bet faithfully. She says that she doesn’t want this to end.
The bartender realizes that, long ago, at the underground poker tournament, where the bartender’s skull was crushed, the cool and sexy Asian girl took him to the hospital and warped his memory. Still, the cool and sexy Asian girl asks if he can help her misdirect the tourist. He brings up infinite game theory and asks her how long she’s been playing. She admits that she didn’t want to keep him stuck but accidentally did. She doesn’t know how long she’s been tricking the tourist.
The tourist eventually comes up to the cool and sexy Asian girl. He knows she’s been lying to him. He asks why she’s doing this. She tells him to let her go. She hates him so much. They argue back and forth a little bit. He runs out, and she chases him, but he’s eventually gone, nowhere to be found. The bartender catches up to the cool and sexy Asian girl. He gives her a data chip, the one that the tourist needs. She thinks about whether to continue her inherent cruelty and lie to the tourist—or to help him this time. She decides to help him this time. She decides to become someone else.
