A candyman with a knack for communicating with the zodiac animal spirits, Tangren Ao, must help the widow Yi lift the Goat and Monkey's curses on her teahouse by mediating the dispute between the two parties.
The spirit of Dog informs him that Monkey and Goat compete for the emperor’s magical missing tea hidden in Yi’s store. The first drinker of the tea bestows its restorative powers to the animal of their birth year. Being the animal of the emperor’s birth year, Goat wishes the tea to be returned. Desperate for a chance at the elixir, Monkey believes that he who successfully stole the tea should get to keep it.
Aware that a person can have a birth-year animal as well as a secret birth-hour animal, Ao rules that the first drinker will belong to both animals and will divide his blessings between the two of them. With the matchmaker's help, he locates a Master Zuoren, born the year of the Goat and hour of the Monkey, to drink the tea and act as a benefactor for both animals.
Just then, Yi’s jealous competitor, Missus Pan, alerts the authorities about the stolen tea’s whereabouts, and they storm the teahouse. With Monkey and Goat’s help, Ao is able to hide the tea, and the authorities leave empty-handed.
Zuoren then drinks the tea and splits his blessings between Goat and Monkey. The happy spirits lift their curses on the teahouse and bless Ao for his service.
