A social worker observes a young girl in her office, finding her inscrutable. In conversation with her, she hears that the child is actually over 2,400 years old. Her father, who was a wizard, discovered a way to halt her growth so that she stayed permanently a child. She has dinner with the social worker and her family, and charms them enough so that they offer to take her in as a foster child, as she feels like she has overstayed her welcome at her former foster family. However, with the passing away of the grandfather, she flees, because the social worker and her husband begin to turn on her. She escapes and endeavors to create a new identity.
