Plot Summary
Flying through space, Raida, a independent 20-year-old Ghost hunter and her hunting partner L’Eesh, an arrogant, experienced, 60 year old male alien Ghost hunter, discover a Ghost pit: an untouched “pocket of spacetime” where alien entities, called Ghosts, reside and bend the rules of physics. The hunters, eager to find Ghosts to hunt for their valuable, heat-trapping hides, crash-land on the planet where the Ghost pit is located— only to find the pit empty and the planet desolate, full of buried bones.
As the two journey to the base of the bridge between the planet’s two moons in hopes of flagging down a rescue ship and finding Ghosts, they learn about each others’ pasts— in particular, the mystery surrounding Raida’s mother, Hily, and her mysterious death. The two eventually reach the bridge, made of brick and alien metal, between the two moons; Raida discovers a palette lift created from alien vacuum technology used to construct the bridge. When L’Eesh reveals that there are no Ghosts to hunt on the planet, Raida is dismayed. L’Eesh uses her weakened state to attack her, bent on plundering the alien technology to sell for his benefit.
Raida retaliates, using the palette technology to her advantage. Turning the tables on L’Eesh, she rockets the two of them into the sky and causes L’Eesh to fall. As he’s caught in a free-fall from the palette’s high vantage point, Raida nearly convinces L’Eesh to divulge the name of her mother’s killer, as L'Eesh was at her mother's side at the time of her death. Intead, knowing she has defeated him and vowing to learn the name of her mother’s killer, the two settle on a deal to return to the ship and hunt giant alien beasts called Splines. The two hunters calculate the percentages of their cuts as they topple downwards back to the planet’s surface to begin their new journey.
