In modern-day Los Angeles, an unnamed, young lesbian woman lives next door to an actress, Betti Perez, who she's secretly been a fan of since Betti was an underground drag queen in New York. The woman's admiration for Betti borders obsession, yet she hides her feelings each time Betti comes over. Betti comes over often, for various reasons--to complain about the pro-recyclers who invade her property to look through the garbage cans, to ask for hydrogen peroxide after getting a minor cut, etc. Each time, Betti asks the woman if she's told her partner Amy, who's a producer, about her pitch for a kids TV show. In the show, Betti would play a crazy babysitter for a family with many kids, one of which would be adopted from Asia or Africa. The woman is evasive whenever Betti asks what Amy thinks about the show. The woman is on treatment to try to have kids herself; she has infertility issues. Per Amy's request, their handyman Manuel comes over to build a chicken coop in their backyard--for purposes of having many eggs in their yard, a well-intended but dark joke. Hearing Manuel's voice, Betti comes over and brainstorms ideas for the TV show's name. Later, Betti and Manuel speak to each other in Spanish, and the woman reflects on how she feels left out.
