A former Texas Ranger, now in his late 60s, now works as a PI and serves subpoenas on the side. One day, he finds himself accidentally entangled in a brutal murder in a small Texan town and does his best to bring the murderer to justice.

Plot Summary
Huck, a man in his late 60s and former Texas Ranger, spends his free time as a private investigator who also serves subpoenas. Normally his cases are fairly straightforward: normally wives hire him to substantiate their suspicions of their husbands' infidelity. One day, while Huck is out in rural Texas, serving a subpoena, he finds himself tasked with a job that is more involved than he had expected it would be.; for, Ralph Oakley is neither at the address the courthouse gave him, nor at his place of work, a butcher shop. Finally Huck finds him at a motel and serves the subpoena. As Huck leaves, he notices a woman, whom he notes as someone who looks like she is having an affair, walk into Oakley's motel room. Huck doesn't think too much of it, but he does mention the woman to Oakely's boss as he swings back by the butcher shop to pick up a steak. That weekend, Huck reads about Oakley's murder in the papers. He takes it upon himself to start investigating the mysterious woman, and eventually goes to a local police station to let them know. Huck, alongside an active police officer, return to the small town and discover that Oakley was having an affair with his boss' wife. It was the boss who killed Oakley and when Huck and the police officer confront him, they nearly die. Luckily, the make it out alive, albeit a bit worse for the wear. Life returns to normal, expect Huck now lives with the responsibility of knowing that he was responsible for setting Oakley's death in action by talking to the butcher.
