Sometime during the twentieth century, after Dan and Nancy discover each other’s affairs, the couple spend a summer in Eureka, Northern California to rekindle their marriage. The two make plans to go fishing, but Nancy decides to call off their efforts to make amends. She decides she will leave Dan for good. However, the sudden appearance of a herd of white horses leads them to spend one last enjoyable night of conversation, coffee, music, and sex together. The next day, after Dan and Nancy share a tender and wistful goodbye, Dan calls his lover, Susan.
