Plot Summary
These days, Maam Iba, a fisherman from Conakry, Guinea eats lunch with his daughter's family before visiting the French ambassador's home. Maam Iba sits by the ambassador's home on the beach and reads a book. In the old days, Maam Iba used to be known as Ibrahima. He used to go out to the water in a boat with his fisherman friend, with whom he had an intimate and romantic relationship. Ibrahima got married to a young woman and got sick. The friend went out to sea to catch fish and never returned, presumably being swept up by a storm at sea. Ibrahim kept his friend close in his heart.
Decades later, Ibrahima goes on his usual walk to the beach. He strips and walks assuredly into the waves. Ibrahima sees his fisherman friend once again, and they are consumed by the ocean together.
