Barbara moves into a new apartment in terrible condition. Her neighbor, a 10 year old girl named Valerie comes over and returns a book about Harriet Tubman. The two discuss the book intensely as Barbara tries to get Valerie to think critically instead of surface level. Valerie is called back home to her mother just as a professional white woman named Eve is approaching the driveway. As Valerie exits, Eve enters Barbara's home and begins conversation. They discuss how Barbara has left Eve's organization in an attempt to start her own opposing Black owned organization. It is slowly revealed that the organization they're speaking of is responsible for finding and training telepathic children. Eve tries to convince Barbara to come back to a meeting for her organization, warning her that trouble looms ahead if she doesn't. Barbara refuses, stating that she is the only one who can truly help these children because the white organization doesn't care about them. Since Barbara refuses, Eve exits her home and returns with 3 large telepathic organization men. Barbara does not put up a fight as they attempt to remove her from her home and bring her to their organization. Just as they are removing her, the 4 are telepathically attacked by an unknown assailant. The attacker is revealed to be Jordan, one of Barbara's teenagers. Jordan is in cahoots with multiple other children who Barbara has taught. They're trying to protect her. Barbara begs them to let the 4 people wake up, saying that if they don't, the organization will send even more people after her, and if she's in danger then they all are. The children fear that she will let the organization kill her in order to protect them. She swears that she won't let this happen and begs them again to let Eve and the men wake up. When they agree, Barbara reveals that she won't let the organization kill her, she intends to forget everything about telepathy and finding children so that the organization can't get any information out of her and won't come after her children.
