Plot Summary
Delia is a widowed sheepherder who spends her summers with a pack of sheep and her dogs, Jesus and Alice. The conditions are often less than luxurious but Delia enjoys her time in the wilderness, protecting the sheep from coyotes nearby, and drinking in the mountain scenery. One day she observes a meteor-like object fall from the sky. Upon further examination, she sees that the object is a metal wing. When a dog-human hybrid creature exits from the vessel, Delia is shocked and silently observes him. Their interactions are silent but relaxed without conflict. He mysteriously appears a few more times in the coming months, and Delia awaits his arrival. When the visits stop Delia continues to look for him in the sky. Much time passes and Delia notices the wing return. She leaves her work stating she is too sick and goes to see the creature once more. This time, however, he is covered in blood and Delia holds him until he passes on. When her herding season ends she spends her salary on a telescope to watch the sky.
