Martha’s ex-husband, Bob, enters the house, and Martha watches him. She's amused at his happiness. She offers him alcohol, but he says he is alright.
Tauntingly, Martha tells him that the “kids are fine” and that her sister Dodie has also come back to their father’s house after a divorce and has brought her own children. Martha senses the taunting in Bob’s voice as he tells her that he is doing great and will soon be a partner at a law firm. One of Martha’s nephews comes home early and asks for a cookie. He dismissively greets Bob.
Bob tells Martha he misses her mother. Martha feels the effects of the alcohol she drank and wraps her arms around Bob’s neck. He struggles away and leaves. She thanks him for stopping by and thinks about how her children will have their father’s smile.
