In the present, a young man gets a job at a local burger place in his small town because his family needs the money. He successfully begs the owner of the place to hire him to help with the graveyard shift. On his first day, he sees all sorts of strange costumers late at night, and he gradually realizes that these costumers are travelers from alternate universes. He becomes interested in learning more about these universes and begins to yearn to escape his small town and travel across universes himself. He tries to hitch a ride, but one of the travelers convinces him to explore his home world more first before he decides to travel to parallel universes, because once he makes that decision, he can never go back to his home universe.
