Plot Summary
Rachel has fled the home of her wealthy husband, taking her daughter Anne-Marie with her. Her husband would not let her go easily, and sends people to get her, so she enlists the help of SYT (Sweet Young Things) an organization who helps women out of abusive situations. They advise her on changing her identity and disappearing. But it's Christmas time, and Rachel wants to give Anne-Marie all the festivity that she would have if she were home. As they jump from hotel to hotel in their van full of belongings, she attempts to imbue their trip with cheer with presents, and by reassuring her that Santa will of course find them even though they're not home. Rachel and Anne-Marie check into yet another hotel and are greeted by a genuine and friendly receptionist named Luke who helps them with their bags and comforts little Anne-Marie as well as he gives her a candy cane and tells her that he's one of Santa's helpers, so he knows he'll be able to find all the children wherever they are. The pair head to one of the only restaurants open during the holiday, a family diner. At the restaurant, Anne-Marie sees a skinny looking Santa Claus lingering in the restaurant who makes her go pale. Rachel doesn't understand why she is upset, until later when they are resting in their hotel room and there is a knock at the door. Rachel calls Luke at the help desk, who tells her that there's a Santa Claus at her door as he looks at the security cameras. After confirming that she did not in fact order a Santa, he tells her he will call the police. As the police are on their way, the Santa, who is actually one of her husband's agents, tries to convince her to go with him back to her husband. He tells her that he can help her pretend it was all a misunderstanding, that she got lost in the woods and that she did not run away. This way her husband will be "merciful". Rachel sticks to her guns though, and refuses to speak or open the door, remembering how scared Anne-Marie is of her husband. Eventually, the police come and the man is scared away. Rachel calls SYT and they send someone to come get her from the hotel to help her disappear again. The agent they send is an older lady who tells them she will take them to her house. Anne-Marie asks her if Santa will find them again, to which she replies, "never again".
