Plot Summary
Pammy is a twelve-year-old girl who lives in Texas with her parents, Morris and Marge. After she goes on a trip to Mexico, Pammy contracts tuberculosis. Upon her return to the States, Pammy asks for a series of tanning appointments at a local health spa to aid her complexion. Morris drives Pammy to the spa and as they listen to the radio, Pammy thinks about her little life in Texas — her friends, her music taste, her parents, even her friends' parents. At the spa, Pammy, to her delight, doesn't have to share a room with anyone. She gets in the tanning bed, but after a few minutes she looks out and notices a man watching her in the room. Pammy is startled, and after the man leaves a few moments later, she dresses quickly and walks to the front in search of him. Unable to identify him, Pammy makes a tanning appointment for the next day. She walks outside to wait for her mother who, upon picking her up, compliments her tan and drives her home.
