Plot Summary
Paula, an otherwise dedicated mother and wife, extensively plans an affair with her coworker. Her teenage daughter asks for a ride to the movies and Paula obliges. She decides to drop her daughter off on the way to the motel room where her coworker awaits. Across town, it's Lauren's initiation night. After a breakup, she's fallen in with a tough crowd led by an intimidating bad-boy. His plan is to scare their elderly math teacher who spoke to him at the grocery store where he works. Agnes Hayes, a retired high school teacher, is thinking of her son, Preston. After she made a racist comment about his wife, Preston wants nothing to do with her. On the way to the teacher's house, the bad-boy opens Lauren's pant zipper without her consent. Another teenage boy in the back seat gets out and leaves, and gives Lauren the courage to jump out when they get to the teacher's house. The boy had locked Lauren's phone and shoes in the trunk, so she stumbles barefoot down the street. After Paula drops her daughter off at the movies, she drives towards the motel when she spots Lauren, and recognizes her from her daughter's school. Paula offers Lauren a ride, and once in the safety of the car, Lauren sobs uncontrollably. Paula's coworker calls her repeatedly, but she doesn't answer. Paula's daughter calls and asks to be picked up early, which ends her plans for the affair. Paula drops Lauren at her home and picks up her daughter and her friends. The bad-boy breaks a window of Agnes' house while she tries to dial 911. Agnes sits motionless in her living room and clutches her telephone, and the bad-boy assumes she had died of fright. He makes up a story to tell Lauren and leaves. Paula returns home, walks outside to find her family's cat, and hears sirens in the distance.
