A young boy, his father, and their dog, Bob, are harvesting corn when they discover a female snake. The father commands the dog to kill the snake, much to the boy's dismay. After the snake dies, they find out she was protecting her eggs. The boy is saddened but reminds himself that it is the circle of life. The following day, the father and son return to the dead snake's body and discover her mate is beside her. The male snake tries to protect the dead snake, and the father commands the boy to use a stick to throw the male snake over the bank. The boy does as told, and the snake's demonstration towards his dead mate teaches the boy about the power of love.
