Plot Summary
Seyefa is at the night market on a date with her boyfriend Voke. The market is bustling with life and music and is not somewhere Seyefa would go alone. The night market was a suggestion of Voke’s, who is the extrovert to her introvert. Seyefa and Voke have been dating for a little under a year, and Seyefa is very pleased with his prospects and personality so far. They order some food and drinks and chat. Suddenly, gunshots ring out and chaos ensues. Seyefa is knocked to the ground and loses sight of Voke. The situation calms quickly, but Seyefa realizes that she cannot find Voke. She calls him a couple times but gets no response. She decides to take a taxi home before changing her mind to go to Voke’s house. On the way, she worries about his safety and thinks about plausible explanations as to why he was not answering the phone. As she pulls up to his flat, she notices the lights are on and that his car is present. She is immediately infuriated and goes to confront Voke, who had left her behind without a second thought. She makes him drive her home and wonders what she should do about her relationship with Voke. She ultimately decides to stay with him because she has no better options.
