Susan and Dan are the parents of an eight-year-old boy named Chris. In the past, Chris had anger issues that required psychiatric help and medication, but it has been months since his last tantrum and his parents hope to put everything behind them. That is, until Susan stumbles upon an immaculately handcrafted miniature coffin with a nameplate marked "Dad" on it and a thin layer of dirt inside.
That night, Susan asks Chris about the coffin. She sets it on the dinner table for Dan to see. Chris answers simply that he made it for his father. After he sends Chris off to bed, Dan expresses his uneasiness with the object and suggests that perhaps they see a psychiatrist again. Unable to cope with the trauma of Chris's mental health, Susan insists that those times are behind them and that Chris simply recreated something he saw on TV. Nonetheless, neither of them can explain the diligent craftsmanship that went into the coffin.
A few days later, Susan finds a coffin marked "Mummy" on her bed. Inside is a thin layer of dirt and the wedding ring which she never removes. When she asks him about it, Chris is all smiles. He says he thought she'd want one too. He tells her that the dirt is from the garden, near the burial site of their old bunny. That night, Susan and Dan endeavor into the garden. They find a seemingly never-ending hole. Upon digging, they unearth the metamorphosed and fused bones of their bunny. Digging deeper, they hit something solid: another immaculately crafted coffin, this time labeled "Son." The imposter they believed to be their son watches them from his bedroom window. Susan enters her home again with the intention of destroying whatever robbed her of her son.
