George senses that something stange is happening, so he runs down to the station and quits his job. He then runs to the bar where his friend Pete along with a large group of others are listening to the radio playing broadcasts from the first days of radio broadcasting. Pete explains to both of them that the radio signals from sixty-four years ago had taken some kind of shortcut through the infinite vacuum of space and arrived many many years early back to earth and are overtaking the radio, rendering it unusable. Eventually, a scientist explains to the public that this is happening because of space invaders that human beings are incapable of communicating with. the invaders eat electricity, and eventually overtake every bit of electricity on Earth. Nothing that worked on electricity functioned anymore, and not even lightening during storms. Years later, George, Maise and Pete are living their lives with steam power, horse power, and other non-electric means. The city of New- York is cleaner without gas cars clogging the air, people are healthier using bikes, and are taking up better hobbies than television and radio listening, like playing instruments and reading books. The three of them are content, and adjusted well, except perhaps for wishing to see lightening
