After she accepts a temporary professor job, Laura becomes infatuated with her student named Seth. She is upset when the last day of class passes, and she will never see him again. Laura returns home to her husband Gerald, whom she met at Cambridge. He has severe depression and has just begun a new episode. She takes him to a mental health facility and reminisces on their relationship. She watches a show about a teacher-student relationship. One of the actors looks like an older version of Seth. She spends more time thinking about how Seth will age. She concludes that waiting for when Seth is her age, and she and her husband are even older, is worth it.
