A young woman, Joanna, heads off to the countryside home with the older brother of one of her friends, Phil. The place is a quaint home on an open field that Sandy, a horse salesman, uses to bring his horses to auction. When she enters the home, she encounters Chris, a horse tamer, resting after being bucked off a horse. As the night progresses, she converses with Chris, learning about life and love: things she hasn’t had the chance to experience. Chris talks of relations with Sandy. She only sees him when he comes up to sell horses because he is married. She warns Joanna of the pains of hopeless love that comes with loving a married man, but it falls on deaf ears. The excitement of romance is an invitation she can’t resist. When Sandy plays the guitar by the fireplace and sings to her about the Nightingale song, Joanna is nearly swept away! However, before she knows it, it is time for her to return home. Though she really would wish to stay, Phil will not let her for fear of losing face with her family. Though she returns home, she dreams of what the morning after would have been like had she been able to stay, promising herself a return come next spring.
