Raised in a Catholic orphanage in the slums of Bangkok, Kris finds his life turned upside down when Mr Strange, a peculiar new teacher, arrives at the school and communicates telepathically with Kris. Unnerved by the experience, Kris sneaks out to a funeral to buy a lottery ticket with his friend P'Waen, who is convinced he is going to win. At the funeral, he hears the ghost of the dead man speaking from inside the coffin, and sees a vision of God. Afterwards, when P'Waen is cursing their luck for buying losing lottery tickets, Kris is able to use his powers to transform the numbers so the tickets win thirty thousand dollars for the orphanage. Mr Strange informs Kris that he is an avatar of the Hindu God Vishna - and he has superpowers. His destiny, Kris is told, is to use his powers to put the immense world-spanning Dragon Jade back to sleep, which will restore balance to the world and prevent climate change. Kris, armed with the dagger that was left in his basket when he was abandoned as a baby, is going to save the world.
