A voodou Bokor goes in search of Longinus after being sent to help him resolve an urgent issue. He walks along the Mississippi River and approaches a few boys who were laughing and talking together, and asks about Longinus. He's found Longinus's gang, but they don't recognize him and he is met with hostility. He defends himself against their attacks both physically and by using his astral zombie spirit, Achebe, who only he can see and who he is able to summon to help him. After the brief fight with Longinus's lackeys that ends with Longinus holding back blood from his own broken nose, the Bokor tells Longinus that he was sent by "auntie" to help him. The Bokor notices the contrast between Achebe, an old spirit who only wears only a hide skirt, and Longinus, a modern day gang member who wears modern clothes. Longinus realizes that the Bokor was the person he was expecting, and explains that some of the people of their gang were killed, and that it was clear that it was by something supernatural. After Longinus shows the Bokor pictures of the bodies, it becomes apparent that a malevolent spirit, a blood letter, is wreaking havoc on the community. Achebe points out to the Bokor that it must be being controlled by witch. The Bokor and Achebe are still examining the body when the blood letter strikes again. A chase begins, with a slew of bodies in the blood letter's wake. One of the bodies seems to be the witch that once controlled the bloodletter. The Bokor uses magic to make it appear as if the woman's corpse is telling the blood letter to stand down. They wonder if the monster will continue to rampage if it believes it is no longer free.
