Corinne's friend Sadie calls and invites Corinne to a party. Sadie and Corinne met at a summer theater program, and attend different high schools, so the party will mostly be people from Sadie's high school whom Corinne doesn't know. Corinne has friends at her own high school, but she feels an intense bond with Sadie. Corinne's mother dislikes Sadie because she feels Sadie has "issues." Sadie comes over to Corinne's house and they get ready for the party together. Corinne is tentative about attending the party, but Sadie convinces her it will be fun. They lie on Corinne's bed together and Corinne wonders what it would be like to kiss Sadie. Corinne drives them to the party in her car. She gets more and more nervous as they approach, and remembers the terrible night at the Penn State party. Her friends had thought she needed medical attention and were angry at her when they realized she was just having a panic attack. Now, Corinne dislikes parties. Sadie told Corinne that she dislikes her classmates, but when they arrive at the party, Sadie seems excited to see them. Corinne loses Sadie in the throngs of teenager. When she finds her, Sadie is sitting on a bed with a girl. They are smoking a joint together. The girl introduces herself as Jackie. Sadie tells Corinne to go meet other people. As Corinne leaves, she hears Sadie tell Jackie that Corinne is possessive. Later, Corinne tells Sadie she needs to go home. Sadie stays at the party. Corinne realizes that she hasn't known Sadie for very long, and their friendship is not what she thought it was. She knows her friendship with Sadie is likely over.
