Following the failure of the Hong Kong sovereignty movement, millions of Hongkongers flee to countries like Scotland and Australia as part of the Diaspora Project. The H1N3 virus sweeps the globe, just as the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland begins, causing the festival organizers to adjust to an "augmented reality" format. A group of diasporic Hongkongers helping coordinate a marquee at the festival try out the "dynamic distancing" technology that participants will use to stop the spread of H1N3 among participants. The technology is a success. The Hongkongers put together a stunning dance choreographed by their friend who died of H1N3 previously.
