In the present, a man drives to a Native American reservation to hold his yearly re-enactment of Custer's Last Stand. He meets up with a woman who has dressed up as an Indian warrior for the re-enactment for at least seven years. She and he have also been having an affair for the past seven years, though they are both married to other people.
Through the days that they re-enact Custer's Last Stand, they share intimacy, and start telling each other more vulnerable details about their childhoods and spouses. On the last day, the man is accused of carrying on an affair with the woman, which he vehemently denies.
However, the next day, as he tries to leave the reservation, he sees an arrow lodged into one of his tires. He fixes it and breaks the arrow in half to adhere to Native American superstition. Then, he leaves.
