A girl lives with her aunt due to an incident in her freshman year of high school where her mother almost drove a pickup truck into her. Since then, by court order, she has lived in her aunt’s house, where she often watches a specific television show with her. From that show, the girl has developed a crush on one of the actors—she is fond of his character’s complexity, as well as the seeming perfection he possesses in real life. She feels ashamed for her crush on him and never tells anyone about it.

One day, the girl discovers that the actors is having a meet and greet in Knoxville, her hometown. Knowing she won’t get money or permission from her aunt, she calls an ex-friend. She recalls how the ex-friend committed statutory rape on her classmate and has since then possessed incriminating pictures of him doing it (which she hasn’t turned into the police due to the classmate’s personal desire not to). In her aunt’s driveway where the ex-friend has shown up, the girl says that she’ll delete the incriminating pictures in exchange for a few hundred dollars, as well as a few hours in his truck. After they agree on it, the ex-friend apologizes for what he did and hopes to rekindle their friendship, but the girl denies him.

The girl goes to the convention by herself and checks in normally. She waits in line for her time slot, during which she sees other giddy fans emerging from their meetings. When she finally sees the actor, she has small talk with him, takes three photographs, and gets thanked for showing up. She then drops her phone accidentally and sees a calling card with the name of a local bar on it.

Thinking that the actor will show up at the local bar, the girl also goes. Although she doesn’t have a fake I.D. to get in, she sneaks inside anyhow. She then stumbles upon the actor and strikes up conversation with him at the local bar’s outdoor patio. He recognizes her quickly, and they begin to have a deeper conversation about the nature of fame and how it feels too much for him. When asked whether he would take it back and do something else with his life if he ever got the chance, he says he would.

Soon enough, the actor’s publicist joins the two of them, who says that the actor is due for a livestream interview later that night. The three of them talk for a while, and the actor decides to take a bathroom break before his livestream interview. While he’s away, the girl crumbles hydrocodone pills into his drink, which he drinks and then later collapses from when they dance together inside the local bar.

With the actor collapsed in her arms, the girl tells the publicist that she, sober, can drive the actor back to his hotel with her truck. The actor, hardly conscious, agrees, after which the girl and the publicist carry him into its passenger seat. The girl then takes him back to his hotel and tells him that he’ll be flying back to Dublin the day after, thus ending his tour. Even as her aunt and ex-friend are calling her on her phone relentlessly, the girl simply lays down on the floor beside the actor.
