Autumn and her husband Jack have been having marital issues for some months, and now he has decided to go on a three week trip to New York. Terrified of abandonment after her father left their family when she was young, Autumn struggles to figure out how to fix their relationship. After a close call on the boat during work — she's a marine scientist — Autumn finds out she's pregnant, leading her to confront her relationship with her own mother. She finally opens the letters her mother has sent her over the years of estrangement, only to find that they all ask for forgiveness. When she drives to her mother's house, she is shocked to see the change — she's become an AA sponsor, and put her life back together.
Autumn leaves, and goes out on the boat alone. She gets caught in a storm, and is rescued barely in time by her work partner, Callista. When she returns home, her mother shows up unannounced to ask again for forgiveness. Autumn can't give it to her, but tells her that she just needs to find herself first. After her mother leaves, Autumn calls Jack and asks him to come over to talk. When he comes, she asks him to stay, and reveals that she's pregnant. They make up.
