Plot Summary
Jo and her daughter, Stacy, are huddled in their home trying to preserve their body warmth because their heater doesn't work now that their gas is turned off. They will be going to live with Jo's sister for some time while Gary, husband and father to them, looks for work. Gary has a tendency of quitting jobs when a new opportunity arises, but this time, he's had some trouble finding a new job. The family is used to moving around, but they had hoped to stay at this house because it felt like a true home, especially since Stacy was able to get a cat now that they had a true yard for a pet. Paula, Jo's sister, is helping them move their things into a trailer and later that day Jo is set to drive to her house to stay for a while. They're ready to leave, but Stacy can't find her cat, and after a while searching, they go inside to rest for a bit before driving off. Stacy wants to hear a story and begs to hear Puss in Boots again. Jo agrees and starts off on the story about a miller who had nothing more than a cat.
