Without other companions, a man muses about his fondness towards a black cat that frequents his home. He recalls memories of the cat bringing back dead animals on the porch and wonders why the cat kills even though it is fed well in his home. He then recalls another instance when the cat had been attacked by a dog, and how he had explained to his cat that dogs are jealous of felines. In another memory, the cat rushes inside during a severe thunderstorm and crawls under the covers with the man. One day, however, the cat does not return home and stays missing for three days.
The man calls his wife to share his concern for the cat to which his wife tells him not to fuss over trivial matters. She tells him she has a life to lead and hangs up, leaving the man lonelier than ever in his anxious state. Several hours after midnight approaching the fourth day, the cat reappears by the man’s window, dirty and bloodied behind its ear. The man reunites with it happily, with worry about the cat’s physical state.
