A man considers different scenarios of how his life might've played out. In one reality, the man is a successful NFL player who has won a Super Bowl Championship, however he cannot handle the fall from fame once he retires, and he spends the rest of his life alone, broke and living in regret. In another reality, he does not make it to the NFL and rather spends a few years playing CFL before marrying a woman named Alene, and having a daughter with Down Syndrome, named Janine. In some realities, Janine will suffer greatly from her Down Syndrome, in others she will prosper despite her condition, and in others Janine does not have Down Syndrome at all.
In each reality, he reflects on the happiness each reality would likely bring him. In the end, he realizes that despite sickness, divorce and hardship, he was happiest in the lives he got to be close with his daughter, Janine.
