Plot Summary
A sentient spaceship lies on a barren plateau, its crew dead, thinking about how long it will take to decompose. It reminisces about it's time as a war ship, under the command of Captain Lamb. It really loved the captain and his crew and wanted to fulfill its purpose: to fight in a war against the Martians. Captain Lamb was in love with a Martian girl who he hoped to be with when the war was over. He talked to a young crew member, Ayres, about how the first trip to space makes all atheists and agnostics believe in God.
At one point, two double agents in the crew attempted to set a time bomb off in the engine room. The ship killed them, and made it look like an accident to the rest of the crew. It fought in the war. The war was won. Some of the crew members died. After years as a cargo ship, with a new crew, it found itself here.
One day, none other than Captain Lamb finds it lying on the plateau. The captain had become an inspector of asteroids just to look for the ship. He promises the ship to return with a repair crew and get it in the sky again.
