Plot Summary
Shane Collins is tired of living as a human among the vampires in his small town of Morganville, Texas. Although the town runs rampant with supernatural forces, he grudgingly admits it will always be his home. While he eats at a local diner, he is shocked to see Jerome Fielder walking outside. Unlike the undead vampires, Jerome is a human who died in a car crash one year ago. Shane is ready to brush off the encounter as another part of Morganville’s strangeness until Jerome ties him up and kidnaps him. Jerome brings Shane to his father, Frank Collins, an obsessive vampire hunter. During their last reunion, Shane’s father almost blew him up along with a building of vampires. Frank has hated vampires ever since the death of his sister, which may have been an accident or may have been murder. Unlike his father, Shane is amicable to vampires and is shocked to find that his best friend Michael, a vampire, has also been kidnapped and chained up. His father explains that he found a way to create zombies, such as Jerome, but that he needs vampire blood. Shane was brought to help but instead he helps Michael escape. Frank threatens him with a crossbow but is unable to shoot his son. They part ways. Frank insists that his actions are for the good of humanity. Shane escapes with Michael, and they give his father five minutes before they call the police. They find Jerome’s dead body, but Frank is missing. The two boys reunite with their friends. Shane is relieved to be back with his girlfriend, Claire.
