Melancholy. That is this story. We follow an unnamed narrator who has a summer home in Alna, a poor town in the middle of nowhere. There is no hustle and bustle of the city, nor the vibrant and dull diversity of people. There are only Alna's residents, all trapped in the vortex of apathy and mediocrity. Our narrator's summer home is kept by Clark, a man whose intellect restrains him from moving forward. He shows our narrator how to escape through drugs, provided by Alna's horde of users that our narrator calls, zombies. For our narrator, this is just life. A dull, routine summer in a derelict town to escape the nagging of the city life. Nothing changes and nothing ever will.
