Long ago, Scheherazade freed several djinn and all their wishes. She has spent her life through the present day tracking them down. They have come out to the rural American west, in a town still feeling the effects of a nuclear meltdown, where the djinn exist in the form of a rifle with bullets that grant wishes.
This rifle has passed through many hands: a closeted gay pawn shop owner, a 19th century trapper, and now a kid who wants to shoot the students at his school as a means of lashing out. Scheherazade, now known as the Hunter, tracks down the djinn and rifle and saves the kid before he kills anyone.
The kid was originally born of wishes in the wake of the nuclear meltdown (for a djinn had been the cause of that) and the Hunter is able to uses wishes to bring him back to the past as a baby so that he may grow up loved and happy.
