An actor met his wife Elida in Hollywood after both had moved from Minneapolis years prior to kickstart careers in entertainment. After falling madly in love, the husband endures twenty years of his wife’s family, who all snore severely enough for it to be noteworthy. After he scores his first speaking role in a buzz-inducing movie, Elida decides their sole child—Valerie, has to be moved back to Minnesota to escape from the tumult of Hollywood.
Years later, with both Elida and her husband taking new, duller, jobs, Elida makes him a half hour compilation of all of his extra roles in commercials, since-cancelled TV shows, and low budget movies. They divorce shortly after, and the man remarries. His new wife is a woman named Laurene, the wealthy heir to a sports apparel fortune that he met at a charity auction. Laurene, notably, doesn’t snore.
Elida and her ex-husband meet regularly to discuss affairs related to their daughter. They have a series of tumultuous fights and an unexpected kiss, and ultimately get back together after Laurene throws a vase at him and he takes her to court for millions of dollars. As they're preparing their new house, Valerie’s snoring becomes notable, and so does Elida’s relative indifference to her new-old-husband. The man is content with this state of affairs.
