Plot Summary
This female mantis can kill a male mantis ten different ways, and each is examined within the framework of human psychology. For instance, a female mantis may collect brightly colored venomous insects, place them on bitter green leaves, and encourage her husband to eat them. He is sometimes reluctant after the first taste but she speaks to him, or else he calms himself and eats. The female mantis proceeds to demonstrate ten different ways to kill the male, transforming scientific phenomena into scenes relatable to humans, raising questions about relationships and life itself: Why do the men remain to die at the hands of their wives, even when they know what's coming? Why doesn't the woman ask the man why he craves death? If she is merely giving her husband what he seeks, is the woman's killing truly an act of cruelty?
