This story begins with a young black woman in South Carolina dealing with the aftermath of her actions after having pulled down the Confederate flag from the state capitol building. In the midst of her action she is confronted with what it means to be considered revolutionary, or at the very least troublesome for having removed this symbol of racism. While she is having to deal with the media and their own projections of her, she is also dealing with what it means to live in a state in which one’s black body is seen as a problem. Her actions challenge the assumptions of those around her who question why someone with dreams of going on to medical school would engage in an act of protest like removing a Confederate flag and how her actions challenge the biases of those in media.
