Plot Summary
Jackson has been obsessed with a film titled Kaleidoscope since it was released half a decade prior. Speaking about it with all his loser film friends, none of them can get to the bottom of the disturbing, evocative horror movie that has fascinated all who have seen it. One day while walking to the video store in town, Jackson passes by a woman who must be Carrie, the protagonist of the film. Acquiring her address from a buddy who works at the store, Jackson runs all the way to her home to meet her. When she opens the door, it becomes clear that he is another crazed fan and she invites him in. Everything in the movie, she tells him, was real: the violence, the drugs, and the sex. Jackson has dreamt of this day for years, of what he would say to her, but he stutters and produces a postcard of the film for her to sign. After doing so, Carrie mutters that she just happened to be the final girl; there was no plot for her to follow or character arc to complete, rather, she was just herself through and through. She tells him he can stay or leave, then wanders into her room. Jackson takes a set of beads that were a prop from the movie on his way out and stashes them in his drawer at home, reminiscing on the final scene of the film where a naked and bloody Carrie runs away from the camera and into the woods.
